Skidmore, Owings and Merrill’s UK Office Chooses eiPower over LAN Desk Power Management

After realizing the cost saving features provided by Enterprise Infrastructure Partner’s (EIP’s) power management solution, Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) UK abandoned software they already owned in favor of EIP’s eiPower Cloud Services.
“SOM UK was especially impressed with our Remote Power On feature,” (RPO) states Melisa Newlin, EIP’s Marketing Director, “and for good reason.”
Remote Power On enables customers to remotely power on resources that are in the office so they can be used or accessed from off site. This eliminates the need to leave power-hungry computers on for remote access 24/7, wasting electricity. Remote Power On meets business requirements of remote access, virtual office and bring your own device (BYOD) situations. Plus, it gives employees complete and secure access to assigned company resources in cases of bad weather, traffic jams or disasters. RPO also enables companies to comply with data security, while allowing users to use expensive resources while off-site, ensuring no data leaves the facility.
SOM UK uses high power HP work stations to design award-winning architectural structures. “Not managing the power on these expensive resources is similar to allowing users to patch their own computers.” States EIP President Joe D’Agostino. “Not centralizing patch management leaves the company open to serious unnecessary downtime, and costs to recover the computers. Not managing power usage on power hungry workstations incurs similar unnecessary costs” Joe added. Using eiPower to manage the power usage of these expensive but necessary resources meets SOM UK’s cost-cutting goals, and ISO 14001 sustainability directives.
SOM UK has engaged EIP to implement all features of eiPower Cloud Services – including Remote Power On, and for good reason. After further investigating the savings eiPower can deliver, a simple Proof of Concept showed a 41% reduction in cost, kWh usage, and carbon emissions. SOM UK will further save money and enable productivity while the cost of electricity continues to rise.
EIP is a software development company based in San Diego, California that designs and develops cost-saving infrastructure applications. eiPower has sold over 1.1 million licenses worldwide.
